Welcome to the Artist Mindset Makeover, my friend. I’m really glad you’re here because I believe God is waiting for you inside this makeover. He’s waiting for you to invite Him into your heart and mind, allowing the Holy Spirit to begin a powerful process of transformation with you. No matter who you are, what you’ve been through, or what you’re currently going through right now, realize that the Creator of the Universe is standing, ready to enable you with all grace to see His transforming power invade your life. Get ready! You’re about to step into your new normal.

As you’re getting started on this journey, I want to give you a brief understanding of how transformation happens for us in the Kingdom of God. But first, here’s how it doesn’t happen: by trying harder on your own or waiting for God to show up and “shazaam” change everything. It happens through what the Bible calls the renewing of your mind. That’s not a God-only process, nor is it a you-only process. It’s a cooperative process between you and God empowered and led by the Holy Spirit. Here’s how it works.

God awakens your heart to His vision and plans for your life. You begin to come into agreement with those plans and realize that the closer you are to Him, the more they reflect the deepest longings of your heart. As you envision and dream with God about the plans He has for you through prayer and your divinely-inspired imagination; your heart begins to be what the Bible calls ‘fully persuaded’. Once that happens, God’s plan for your life becomes more and more clear each day.

Along the way, you’ll be faced with fear, anxiety, and accusation from the enemy, usually based on your past, the opinions of others, or your own feelings of unworthiness.  You have a choice, and this is key! You can either continue to agree with the lies of the past, or you can recognize those lies, intentionally replace them with the truth of God’s Word and then reinforce that new truth at every opportunity.  It’s your choice. The Holy Spirit is there to empower and lead you, but my friend, it’s your choice. As you choose to align your thoughts with God’s Word over time, based on the precious promises of God, your heart and mind will begin to change. They will literally shed the old and be clothed in the new, creating new pathways in your brain that will align with God’s best for your life.

This Artist Mindset Makeover is designed to help you start that process by addressing the 7 most common misconceptions (lies) that artists believe and replace them with the truth of God’s Word. Welcome to the journey!

Day 1: You Can Know God’s Plan For Your Life

2/17/2021

If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times: Matt, I just don’t know what God’s plan is for my life.  My friend, God’s not trying to hide from you!  In fact, it’s His good pleasure to give you the Kingdom (Luke 12:32). The resistance you feel may simply be the frustration of the enemy and the fruit of untruth you’ve believed about how the Kingdom works.  It could also be the rush of excitement and adventure that comes with a little bit of nervousness, not knowing exactly how each step will happen in your life.

It might also be your own nervousness because you think, “surely doing what I love to do isn’t what God’s designed me for.” But here’s the beautiful thing… it probably is! The very thing that makes you unique, the thing your heart burns for, is more than likely a big clue, revealing God’s design for your life.

Remember, the Bible says, “It’s the Glory of God to conceal a matter, the glory of kings to search it out.”  God’s with you every step of the way on this journey of discovery! You can rejoice in the fact that God has a plan for your life and wants to guide you into it.

Read these scriptures below and let them sink in to establish a new normal for you regarding knowing God’s plan for your life:

  • My sheep know my voice John 10:27
  • For I know the plans I have for you… Jeremiah 29:11
  • I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. Psalm 57:2
  • Call to Me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. Jeremiah 33:3
  • Ask and it shall be given to you  Matthew 7:7
  • When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come. John 16:13

What lies have you believed about your ability to hear, understand and pursue God’s plan for your life? Ask God to show you His truth and then create an affirmation to support that new truth. Every time the enemy comes at you with the lies from the past, simply recognize it, replace it with the truth of God’s Word, and reinforce that truth over and over. Over time, your normal response will begin to align with God’s best for your life.

Day 2: You Can Thrive As An Artist Spiritually, Artistically, And In Business

2/16/2021

Have you ever noticed in the Bible that God doesn’t have any favorite occupations?  That’s right! Regardless of what we do, God is our source. He promises to provide for and bless us abundantly because we are his children, not because of how we perform. And the good news is, that promise doesn’t just apply to the overtly “spiritual” things of life. Everything in our life is designed to be used by God to release the transforming power of His Kingdom, all while allowing us to live the abundant life Jesus promised.

Read these scriptures below and let them sink in to establish a new normal for you regarding your ability to thrive as an artist:
  • Prosper even as your soul prospers 3 John 1:2
  • Bezalel Filled and Skilled Exodus 31
  • Bezalel provided for in excess Exodus 36
  • David was prospering in all his ways 1 Samuel 18:14
  • Seek first the Kingdom of God Matthew 6:33
  • I came that you may have life abundantly John 10:10

What lies have you believed about your ability to thrive in every area of life? Thinking maybe it’s too good to be true? How could God actually want you to walk in abundance in every area of life?  My friend, it is absolutely true!

Ask God to show you His truth and then create an affirmation to support that new truth. Every time the enemy comes at you with the lies from the past, simply recognize it, replace it with the truth of God’s Word, and reinforce that truth over and over. Over time, your normal response will begin to align with God’s best for your life.

Just like the woman at the well, our past hurts can hold us back from experiencing everything that the Lord has designed for our life. Yet with a simple yes, Jesus can set you free, and you can experience His freedom.

Read these scriptures below and let them sink in to establish a new normal for you regarding being able to let go of the past:

  • The story of the woman at the well John 4
  • Pursue peace with everyone, as well as holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God, and that no root of bitterness springs up to cause trouble and defile many. Hebrews 12:14-15
  • For God has not given us a spirit of fear… 2 Timothy 1:7
  • Who the Son sets free is free indeed John 8:36
  • There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus Romans 8:1
  • Forgetting what lies behind, I press on…. Philippians 3:13

What lies have you believed about your ability to let go of the things in your past that have haunted you for years? Ask God to show you His truth and then create an affirmation to support that new truth. Every time the enemy comes at you with the lies from the past, simply recognize it, replace it with the truth of God’s Word, and reinforce that truth over and over. Over time, your normal response will begin to align with God’s best for your life.

Day 4: You Can Create A New Normal Based On The Truth Of God’s Word

Your heart is an incubator. Whatever you put inside of it will grow and bring forth a harvest in your life. Just like a garden, the soil doesn’t care what kind of seed you insert. Regardless, that seed will sprout and grow.  When you start to replace the lies of the enemy and your past with God’s Word, believing it in your heart and acting on it by faith, your reality will change.

Read these scriptures below and let them sink in to establish a new normal for you regarding creating a new normal based on God’s Word:

  • Be transformed by the renewing of your mind Romans 12:2
  • Immediately the scales fell from Paul’s eyes Acts 9:18
  • Whatever a man sows, so shall he reap Galatians 6:7-9
  • Your word is a lamp unto my feet, a light unto my path Psalm 119:105
  • For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

What lies have you believed about your ability to experience a new reality beyond what you’ve known up to this point in your life? Ask God to show you His truth and then create an affirmation to support that new truth. Every time the enemy comes at you with the lies from the past, simply recognize it, replace it with the truth of God’s Word, and reinforce that truth over and over. Over time, your normal response will begin to align with God’s best for your life.

God desires to work in you and through you as you pursue His design for your life.  As you do, your unique expression will unfold, and you can trust that His presence will be moving through your work. In that reality, the work you create literally becomes an intersection point for the Holy Spirit to move in the life of another.

Read these scriptures below and let them sink in to establish a new normal for you regarding your ability to create your best work:

  • Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord Colossians 3:23
  • Do everything for the Glory of God 1 Corinthians 10:31
  • God inhabits the praises of His people Psalm 22:3
  • We are His workmanship (Poema) Ephesians 2:10

What lies have you believed about your ability to create artwork that is unique, fulfilling, and transformative? Ask God to show you His truth and then create an affirmation to support that new truth. Every time the enemy comes at you with the lies from the past, simply recognize it, replace it with the truth of God’s Word, and reinforce that truth over and over. Over time, your normal response will begin to align with God’s best for your life.

Day 6: You Can Sell Your Work For Top Dollar To Clients Who Love & Value Your Work

2/12/2021

There are a lot of misconceptions in the minds of Christians and especially Christian artists who think that if they make money from their art, somehow they are selling out, taking advantage of the situation, or even desecrating the gift God has given them. Nothing could be further from the truth.  In reality, no matter what you’re called to do, God’s promise is the same: to guide your steps, provide for your every need, prosper you in all your ways and make you a blessing. Wow, what a promise! Of course, that’s all predicated on the fact that your life is submitted to Him, and you’re cultivating an intimate relationship with God every day. In that context, everything is possible!

Read these scriptures below and let them sink in to establish a new normal for you regarding your ability to sell your artwork:
  • God gives you the ability to create wealth Deut 8:18
  • Commit your ways to the Lord and they will succeed  Psalm 37:5
  • Consider the lilies of the field Matthew 6:24-36
  • You will be blessed Deut 28:3-13

What lies have you believed about making money, receiving provision, and selling your work in the marketplace? Ask God to show you His truth and then create an affirmation to support that new truth. Every time the enemy comes at you with the lies from the past, simply recognize it, replace it with the truth of God’s Word, and reinforce that truth over and over. Over time, your normal response will begin to align with God’s best for your life.

Day 7: You Can Live A Life Of Passion, Focus And Rest Without Overwhelm

2/11/2021

Most artists live out a place of either hoping, waiting, and begging God to do something in their life, or when that doesn’t work, they take matters into their own hands and start working, sweating, and striving to make something happen on their own. Neither is God’s best for life in the Kingdom.  In fact, there’s a simple pathway in the Kingdom that goes like this. Out of intimacy with God, we receive revelation by the Holy Spirit in line with our God-given design and our assignment in the Kingdom. When we begin to walk in that, God releases provision for us to do the work He’s called us to do in our life, resulting in lasting fruit, impact, and personal fulfillment. This is the outflow of resting in His presence.

Read these scriptures below and let them sink in to establish a new normal for you regarding your ability to live a life free of overwhelm:

  • There remains a sabbath rest Hebrews  4:9-10
  • In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength. Isaiah 30:15
  • Do not be slothful in zeal be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord  - Romans 12:11

What lies have you believed about your ability to live a life of passion, focus, rest, and provision? Ask God to show you His truth and then create an affirmation to support that new truth. Every time the enemy comes at you with the lies from the past, simply recognize it, replace it with the truth of God’s Word, and reinforce that truth over and over. Over time, your normal response will begin to align with God’s best for your life.
