Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need to be a teacher or expert to lead a group?
No! You don’t need to have all the answers or be a professional teacher. All you need is a willing heart, a love for Jesus, and a desire to create a safe space where artists can grow together. The book and Leader’s Guide provide everything you need to facilitate meaningful discussion.
2. What materials do we use in a small group?
Right now we are focusing on The Foundations Course book, but you’re welcome to use any of Matt Tommey’s books as the basis for your small group. Each book is designed to spark conversation, bring transformation, and help artists grow spiritually and creatively. Just order them via our website.
3. How often should we meet?
That’s up to you and your group! Most groups meet weekly, while some prefer every other week, or monthly. You’ll be able to select your meeting frequency when you register your group here on this page.
4. What happens when I register my group?
After completing the registration form and agreeing to our Statement of Faith, you’ll receive an immediate email from Matt with a downloadable Leader’s Guide, and clear next steps. Once approved, your group will also appear on our global interactive map so artists can find and connect with you.
5. Does it cost anything to host a group?
No. Hosting a group is completely free. The only cost involved is for individual group members to purchase the book you’re using for your study.
6. How do people find out about my group?
Once registered, your group will be listed on our interactive global map with your meeting details. Artists in your area can connect with you directly through the contact info you provide.
7. What if there isn’t a group near me?
That’s exactly why we’re building this movement! If you don’t see a group near you, consider starting one. You may be the spark God uses to awaken creativity and community right where you live.
8. Can groups meet online?
Yes! While we love in-person gatherings, online groups are a great option for artists who don’t have a local group nearby or who want to connect across distances.
9. Do I have to follow the Leader’s Guide exactly?
Not at all. The Leader’s Guide is there to give you structure and support, but you’re free to adapt it to the needs and flow of your group.
10. Who can attend my group?
Anyone! Your group will be open to artists and creatives in your community (or online) who want to grow spiritually, connect relationally, and pursue God’s calling through their art.
11. Can I charge people to be part of my small group?
No. These gatherings are designed to be peer-led experiences, not paid classes or business opportunities. The only expectation is that each participant purchases their own copy of the book or course materials you’re using.
12. Can I show the Foundations Course videos in my group?
Yes—if you as the leader have purchased the Foundations Course video curriculum. You may show the videos in your group, but your login is for individual use only and may not be shared with others. Each participant will need their own book. There’s also a special offer in the book for anyone who wants to purchase the online course for themselves and gain access to the private Facebook community and additional bonus resources.
13. Can I start a group anytime?
Yes! You don’t have to wait for a special season or launch. You can register and begin your group whenever it works best for you and your community. Once you’re listed on the map, artists can find and join you right away.
