Every person is called by God and entrusted with a part of His nature as an image bearer: one who reveals and reflects God to the world. Such a high calling, yet one we easily forget because of the mundane pressures of life. Our fleshly reactions often replace purposeful Spirit-led actions.
Paul encourages believers to lead a life worthy of this calling and gives 5 principles for us to pursue: humility, gentleness, patience, unity, and peace.
- Humility, the willingness to put others before yourself, knowing your identity is in Christ, not in recognition or achievement.
- Gentleness, the choice to extend purposeful kindness and grace in moments when you want to respond harshly.
- Patience, the willingness to delay gratification and extend grace to others in a moment of frustration or desire. To wait expectantly while being filled with hope as we are empowered by the Holy Spirit.
- Unity, the choice to prefer and pursue the collective good over our individual desires in order to honor one another and achieve a desired result in the Kingdom.
- And peace, the eagerness to walk as a conduit of God’s abundance, demonstrating our completeness in Him and inviting others into the same.
Choose today to walk worthy of the calling God has set before you.
“Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.” – Ephesians 4:1-4 NLT
